RPM and Hz Relationship

RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) and Hz (Hertz) are both units of frequency, but they measure different types of frequency. RPM measures the number of rotations or cycles per minute, whereas Hz measures the number of cycles per second.

RPM (Rotational Speed):

RPM stands for Revolutions Per Minute, representing the number of rotations an object makes in one minute. It is commonly used to describe the speed of rotating machinery such as motors, wheels, and fans.

Hz (Frequency):

Hz stands for Hertz, which measures the number of cycles or oscillations per second. 1 Hz = 1 cycle per second. It is widely used in describing electrical signals, sound frequencies, and vibrations.

Conversion Relationship

The relationship between RPM and Hz can be expressed with the following formula:

Frequency (Hz) = RPM / 60

This formula shows that the frequency in Hz is directly proportional to the RPM, but since 1 minute equals 60 seconds, the RPM must be divided by 60 to convert it to Hz.

Example Calculation

If an object rotates at 300 RPM, its frequency in Hz would be:

Frequency = 300 RPM / 60 = 5 Hz
